The AVI funds the VALCOOKOIL project led by MUPOMAT - ICMol...

The Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) proudly announces the approval of the VALCOOKOIL project, spearheaded by the MUPOMAT - Multifunctional Porous Materials group, under the call by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI). This ambitious project, identified as INNEST/2024/495, is framed by the motto: "For a circular and sustainable economy: reuse and valorization of used frying oils."

The primary objective of VALCOOKOIL is to develop an innovative system for the recovery, purification, and valorization of used frying oils (ROs), transforming them into high-value raw materials for the production of detergents. This approach aligns with the principles of circular economy and sustainability, offering solutions to repurpose materials traditionally considered as waste.

Specific objectives of the project:

  1. Characterization and composition of ROs:

    • In-depth study of the physical and chemical properties of used frying oils.
  2. Removal of impurities:

    • Development of efficient methods to remove solid particles and discoloration from the oils.
  3. Residue stability:
    • Evaluation of the stability of reused oils.
  4. Fatty acid profile:
    • Analysis of the fatty acid content in ROs.
  5. Harmful compounds:
    • Identification and mitigation of harmful substances to enhance valorization.

The VALCOOKOIL project not only represents a technological breakthrough in waste management but also highlights ICMol’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development. This initiative reinforces the institute’s ability to lead projects that integrate cutting-edge science and sustainability for the benefit of society.
