The Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol), Universitat de València, held the 10th Women Researchers’ Day on March 9. This initiative is part of the institute’s ongoing actions in equality and science outreach, aimed at highlighting the role of women in science and promoting female role models in research.
The event took place in the ICMol assembly hall and brought together researchers, students, and members of the public for a programme combining scientific content with institutional reflection.
The session opened with welcoming remarks by the Director of ICMol, Eugenio Coronado, followed by a keynote lecture delivered by Prof. María J. Vicent (Príncipe Felipe Research Center). Her talk focused on the development of polypeptide-based therapeutics with inherent mitochondrial targeting, addressing recent advances in nanomedicine and their potential to meet unmet clinical needs.
This was followed by an institutional roundtable entitled “Breaking the glass ceiling: leadership, evaluation and opportunities in science”, moderated by Prof. Isabel Fariñas (Universitat de València). The discussion featured Prof. Yolanda Moliner (Universitat de València), Prof. María J. Vicent, and Prof. Emilio Alarcón (University of Ottawa). The panel provided an opportunity to reflect on current challenges in scientific careers from a gender perspective and to discuss potential strategies to foster a more equitable research system.
The event also included an initial coffee reception, which encouraged interaction among attendees and facilitated informal exchange.
With this tenth edition, the Institute of Molecular Science reinforces its commitment to gender equality in science and consolidates this initiative as a key platform for reflection, visibility, and the promotion of female research talent.
